ACLA in BC Takes Action Against Racism: “Stop the Hate, Racism Kills!”

March 28, 2021 – Members and supporters of the Asian Canadian Labour Alliance in BC took action against anti-Asian racism in light of the recent killings in Atlanta and the increasing attacks against Asian people in Canada. More than a dozen folks frequented the four corners of Main and Terminal, a busy intersection in Vancouver, which we acknowledge is on the lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

Signs with messages such as “Model Minority Myth”, and “Asian resistance lives here” were waved at passing pedestrians and vehicles. Other signs connected the broader issues of anti-Asian racism to White Supremacy and its impact on Indigenous, Black, and other People of Colour such as “Racism Kills: Stop Asian Hate, Black Lives Matter, Land Back”, and “Protect BIPOC lives.”

The action ended with chants of “Stop the hate, there is no debate, racism kills!” The group received frequent honks and signs of approval from passersby. ACLA in BC continues to unite against racism and is currently working on plans for Asian Heritage Month.
